We are developing and improving the structural biology research environment
using the high-brilliance synchrotron radiation at SPring-8.

For those who have an accepted proposal, Beamtime survey for 2026A (Proprietary research proposal)

This guidance is for “Proprietary research proposal”. If you have “Non-proprietary research proposal”, please click here.
Please follow the steps below to apply.

General information

  1. Please note that the proposal numbers for proposals accepted in the 2025B period have been changed. Please verify your new number on the UI site.
  2. For users of the PX beamlines and BioSAXS, please be aware that the minimum shift allocation was changed from the 2025A period.
  3. If there is unallocated beamtime/machine time after the regular allocation for each 2026A period, we will announce a call for Additional Beamtime/Machine Time. Please see the "Call for Unallocated Beamtime (Proprietary Research)" for details.

PX-Beamline (BL41XU, BL45XU, BL32XU, BL26B1)

Beamtime for the following 2026A periods will be allocated.
 2026A 1st period (10:00 am, Apr 8th – 10:00 am, Jun 8th): The deadline is February 26th at 10:00 (Japan time).
 2026A 2nd period (10:00 am, Jun 9th – 10:00 am, Jul 29th):
For a detailed schedule, please refer to the Beamtime schedule.
To apply, please send an e-mail to pxbl (add @spring8.or.jp) with your proposal number, desired dates/times, number of shifts, and desired beamline(s). For Proprietary Research Proposals, we are also accepting requests for beamtime covering the entire 2026A period. (You will be able to modify your request during subsequent beamtime surveys)

PX-BLs Specifications
Beamtime Schedule

  1. Unattended automatic data collection is available at BL45XU and BL32XU. The operation of BL45XU has been adapted to prepare for the commissioning of the Uni-puck automatic sample exchange system.
  2. The automated measurement beamtime at BL45XU is highly demanded. To ensure beamtime can be reallocated to other users, please avoid booking excessive time that may be canceled or shortened at the last minute. If cancellation or a reduction in time is unavoidable, please contact us as early as possible so we can reallocate it. For unattended automated measurements, it may be possible to extend your experiment time if there are vacancies. We appreciate your cooperation.
  3. Remote access is available at BL41XU. For details, please contact the beamline staff: stbio (add @spring8.or.jp).
  4. New from 2025B: The HAG method and plate-based diffraction are now available at BL41XU in addition to BL26B1. Please contact the beamline staff in advance if you wish to use these methods.
  5. The minimum shift allocation is as follows:
  • 0.25 shifts (2 hours): BL41XU, BL45XU, and BL32XU (unattended automatic data collection only).
  • 1.5 shifts (12 hours): BL32XU (for on-site measurements).
  • 1 shift (8 hours): BL26B1

CryoTEM

Please check here for the public use of CryoTEM.
