For those who have an accepted proposal, Beamtime survey for 2025B (Non-proprietary research proposal)

This guidance is for “Non-proprietary research proposal”. If you have “Proprietary research proposal”, please click here.
Please follow the steps below to apply.

General Information

  1. The number of allocated shifts is determined by a graded distribution based on the proposal's review score, within the available beamtime.
  2. Please note that the proposal numbers for proposals accepted in the 2025A period have been changed. Please verify your new number on the UI site.
  3. For users of the PX beamlines and BioSAXS, please be aware that the minimum shift allocation was changed from the 2025A period.
  4. If there is unallocated beamtime/machine time after the regular allocation for each 2025B period, we will announce a call for Additional Beamtime/Machine Time. Please see the "Call for Unallocated Beamtime (Non-proprietary Research)" for details.

PX-Beamline (BL41XU, BL45XU, BL32XU, BL26B1)

Beamtime for the following 2025B periods will be allocated.
 2025B 1st period (10:00 am, Oct 1st – 10:00 am, Nov 10th): Closed
 2025B 2nd period (10:00 am, Nov 11th – 10:00 am, Dec 11th ): The deadline is September 24, 2025 at 10:00 (JST)
 2025B 3rd period (10:00 am, Jan 22nd – 10:00 am, Feb 25th ):
For a detailed schedule, please refer to the Beamtime schedule.
If you wish to use a beamline during the periods above, please fill out the “Beamtime Survey Sheet” and “Crystal Spec Sheet” and upload them from the Beamtime Request Application Page. If you have photographs of your crystals, please upload them as well. The username and password for the application page will be sent to the Principal Investigator by email. If you have multiple proposals or require multiple measurement methods, please upload a separate application for each. Your proposal number and the Principal Investigator's email address are required for authentication to upload files.

Beamtime Schedule

  1. Unattended automatic data collection is available at BL45XU and BL32XU. The operation of BL45XU has been adapted to prepare for the commissioning of the Uni-puck automatic sample exchange system.
  2. The automated measurement beamtime at BL45XU is highly demanded. To ensure beamtime can be reallocated to other users, please avoid booking excessive time that may be canceled or shortened at the last minute. If cancellation or a reduction in time is unavoidable, please contact us as early as possible (preferably at least 10 days before your scheduled beamtime) so we can reallocate it. For unattended automated measurements, it may be possible to extend your experiment time if there are vacancies. We appreciate your cooperation.
  3. For non-proprietary automatic data collection requests, if beamtime cannot be fully allocated at BL45XU and BL32XU, requests may be assigned to BL41XU based on experimental content and proposal rating.
  4. Remote access is available at BL41XU. For details, please contact the beamline staff: stbio (add @spring8.or.jp).
  5. New from 2025B: The HAG method and plate-based diffraction are now available at BL41XU in addition to BL26B1. Please contact the beamline staff in advance if you wish to use these methods.
  6. You can submit up to three requests with priorities. In each request, you can select only one beamline from BL41XU, BL45XU, BL32XU, or BL26B1.
  7. Final measurement dates will be determined after coordinating all requests. Depending on demand, we may offer you beamtime at a beamline you did not request. In such cases, we will consult with you by email beforehand.
  8. The minimum shift allocation is as follows:
  • 0.5 shifts (4 hours): BL41XU, BL45XU, and BL32XU (unattended automatic data collection only).
  • 1.5 shifts (12 hours): BL32XU (for on-site measurements).
  • 1 shift (8 hours): BL26B1

CryoTEM

Please check here for the public use of CryoTEM.

The deadlines for the three periods of 2025B are as follows.
 2025B 1st period (10:00 am, Sep 29th – 10:00 am, Nov 10th): Closed
 2025B 2nd period (10:00 am, Nov 10th – 10:00 am, Dec 22nd ): The deadline is September 24, 2025 at 10:00 (JST)
 2025B 3rd period (10:00 am, Jan 19th – 10:00 am, Mar 16th ):
Please refer to the following for a detailed beamtime Schedule

If you wish to use a beamline during the two periods, please fill “Survey_Sheet” and “Spec_Sheet” and upload them from the application page. If you have a photo of the sample with an electron microscope, please upload it. We will inform the principal investigator by email the username and password of the application page. If there are multiple assignments, please upload each.
The measurement date will be adjusted and notified after the number of shifts is determined.
The pre-use training course is required to use the CryoTEM either through the regular workshop or your own machine time. If you wish to have machine time before taking the course, please indicate so in the special notes.
